In all the shows of his band he does like Bono Vox and makes sure to ask for donations to help countries that suffered recent natural disasters, like Haiti and Japan. Such commitment motivated Jared to publish a book with pictures of Haiti. The money of the sales will entirely go to the Caribbean country.
“I used to spend seasons in Haiti when I was a kid, so I went back there after the earthquake and took a lot of pictures. I’m finishing assembling the book with those pictures and words of my journey. I believe the best part of having a huge audience is encouraging people to dedicate their time, energy and money to the others,” explains the benevolent Jared, who brings to Brazil the tour of their latest album, “This is War”.
The musician follows the same ‘zen’ line when we reached the name of the singer Greg Puciato, from the band Dillinger Escape Plan. Not a long time ago, Greg calledJared an idiot and a ‘poser’ on Twitter. But the 30 Seconds to Mars leader shrugs.
“Negativity is a waste of time. I prefer to use my energy doing something positive. There are so many bad things in the world already. Our lives are too short to spend all the time thinking only about ourselves,” he says.

After that, we better take Jared’s advice and talk about good things… Being an actor and a singer must attract a lot of fangirls, right?
“No! The girls in our shows love the music and they get really involved in the lyrics. We’re not a party band. But the truth is that I love Brazilian women, they are the sexiest girls in the world. And, well, I’m single…”
I can already hear girls running to Mars dressing-room. Jared says he got advices for not playing in Rio with his band – that also includes his older brother Shannon Leto and Tomo Milicevic. But he insisted, because he wanted to feel the “heat” of our people.
“They told me it wasn’t worth playing in Rio, because Sao Paulo is a better city for rock. I replied: ‘You’re wrong.’ I’ve been to Rio three times, and in spite of it being the first time with the band, I know the people from Rio are wonderful,” told us the vocalist who, when in Rio, loves to wake up in the morning, buy açaí and take a walk on the streets.
When the band released their first CD, in 2002, the American already had a good career as an actor. After “My so-called Life”, he was in movies like “The Fight Club” (1999) and “Requiem for a Dream” (2000). His Hollywood side continued even after the band became loved by MTV, and he appeared in “Lord of War” (2005) and other productions. But the tendency, says Jared, is his theatrical self to walk off of the screens.
“The band is doing really great and it takes most part of my time. Until the end of the year it will be only tour, tour and tour.” he comments, emphasizing he didn’t hesitate to put his actor career aside. “Life is meant for us to follow our dreams, and The rocker look with the spiky hair, leather jacket and, a lot of times, uncovered abs, is just one of Jared Leto’s faces, vocalist of the band 30 Seconds to Mars, that plays a concert at Vivo Rio next Tuesday. Actor of movies like “The Fight Club” and the popular series of the 90s, “My so-called Life”, the 39 year-old star also plays the Good Samaritan.
